Meals on Wheels Santa Ynez Valley
For almost 400 seniors and veterans in our community, Meals on Wheels is the lifeline that allows them to remain independent in their homes and age with dignity.
Meals on Wheels is Santa Ynez Valley Community Outreach’s largest program, and is part of the national network of Meals on Wheels America. Every weekday, volunteers deliver a hot meal straight to each Meals on Wheels recipient’s door, with an additional two frozen meals delivered every Friday to cover the weekend.
In addition, Meals on Wheels Santa Ynez Valley provides:
- Much-needed relief from isolation: their Meals on Wheels driver is often the only person the senior or veteran will see that day
- Welfare checks to ensure their health and safety
- Connection to the range of other services offered to seniors through the Buellton Senior Center, like transportation to medical appointments.
This vital program has a huge impact on the lives of seniors and veterans in our community. 2 out of 3 of those receiving Meals on Wheels in the greater Santa Ynez Valley report that it makes up half or more of all the food they eat for that day. 9 out of 10 say that Meals on Wheels delivered at home improves their health. All Meals on Wheels recipients get their meals at a rate subsidized by SYV Community Outreach. Most are on scholarship and receive their meals completely free of charge.
It is our mission to ensure that the older members of our community are taken care of and supported. Our ethos is, “We will do our utmost to help. And if we can’t, we’ll find someone who can.” If you or someone you know could benefit from our Meals on Wheels program, email, call, or come into our offices in Buellton.
